John O’Connor Writing School is committed to an excellent experience for all those who take part in the festival including requesting only those personal details which are necessary to make sure that you can access our services and events and we can develop the festival in a way that takes into account participant feedback: for example – subscription to our mailing list, buying tickets, responding to feedback surveys, and contracting for supply of goods and services to the festival.

Mailing List

Our e-news is primarily to share details of the festival and associated happenings (short story competition, fundraising events etc). It is circulated generally less than once month but with more frequency in and around the festival itself. On the rare occasions we circulate information about related events which we believe would be of interest to subscribers, we do not share list data, we circulate details ourselves. The information we request is your email (essential), and name (optional) and we also record a number of categories where appropriate, ie participant, artist, committee – so that we can provide more tailored information if required. If you would like to be added to our mailing list CONTACT US.

We use MailChimp to deliver our newsletter. Using this mechanism, we gather statistics around email opening and click-through rates using industry standard technologies to help us monitor and improve our e-newsletter. For more information, please see MailChimp’s Privacy Notice .

You can unsubcribe to general mailings at any time using the unsubcribe link at the bottom of all MailChimp created e-newletters as standard, or drop a line via our CONTACT US form on the website.

We also request postcode details to support funder queries and to inform festival development. While we may ask you whether you would like to sign up to our e-newletter, for example, esponse to this is entirely optional.
